A stock count is what was found on your shelves on a day, checked line by line against your records. Counting never moves your stock on its own: the counted figures and their stock value are fixed when the count is completed, and the differences reach the stock only when the owner applies them. Stock counts sits under Listings where your plan includes it.

- Completed counts with a line that differs, waiting for the owner. The Dashboard counts them.
- Completed
- Counts whose figures and stock value are fixed.
- Applied
- Counts whose differences have been posted to stock.
A count dated before the day it is entered is Recorded: it records the stock value on that day and compares nothing.
Counting
New count starts a full count of every SKU, or a partial one of those you choose. On its page, type each figure and press Enter for the next line; on a phone, Start counting shows one SKU at a time, with a button to add or remove one, and says how many of the count's lines are counted: a count of one SKU reads 0 of 1 counted until its figure is in. Each line saves as you leave it, and a figure typed while offline waits on its line until the connection comes back.
Scan barcodes (Scan, on a phone) counts with the camera: each time an item's barcode comes into view, its line counts one more, a line not yet counted starting at 1. An item held still counts once, so take it out of view before the next. A barcode scanner that types works the same way: scan into the search, which stays ready for the next scan. A code is matched to a line by its SKU or barcode, so give each SKU its barcode on its listing first.
The moment a line is counted, StoreDeck notes its Expected figure (the stock on the shelf, orders awaiting dispatch included, since a sale takes its units before the parcel leaves) and the units committed to those orders. A line that differs needs a reason before the count is applied. A line nobody counted is never read as zero: completing the count leaves it out.
- Not counted
- Lines still to count.
- Discrepancies
- Lines counted differently from what was expected.
- Matched
- Lines counted as expected.
- Excluded
- Lines left out of the count.
Completing and applying
Complete count fixes its figures and each SKU's unit cost, and gives its stock value: what was counted, less what is committed, at unit cost. Apply to stock, the owner's step, posts each difference as a Count movement with its reason. Damaged, Theft or loss and Promotion or donation write the units off at their cost; Found writes back units the SKU has written off before, at their cost, and any more are a Correction; a Correction moves units and no money. Each line's reason says what applying it will do.
Your stock value at the year end
Your accountant needs the stock value on the last day of the financial year. A full count in its last two weeks gives it; Needs attention reminds you, and Year end, under Profit and loss, uses the completed count nearest before the year end.
