Import brings records in from a CSV file: a spreadsheet you kept before StoreDeck, a report from your sales channel, or a file StoreDeck exported. It is offered beside Add on Orders, Listings, Inventory (opening balances), Expenses, Adjustments and Payouts, to whoever can add those records. It is desk work, so a phone does not offer it.
Four steps
- Choose a file. A CSV file with a header row naming its columns, in any order. Save a spreadsheet as CSV first. Download template gives you the columns each kind of file takes, and the page lists what each column accepts. The columns are named as your store's pages name them; a file naming them in the other English, as another sales channel does, or as a file exported before took them, reads in too.
- Check. The file is read and checked before anything is saved. You see the rows that are ready and the rows that will be skipped, each with its line in the file and every reason, including what StoreDeck would refuse: a date on or before the Lock date, a month's order allowance used up, a listing your plan has no room for, or a record the store already holds.
- Import. The ready rows go in one at a time, with a progress count. You can stop part way; what went in stays.
- Done. The page says what was imported and offers the list it went to. Download rows not imported gives back every skipped row with a Reason column, to put right and import again. A record that came from a file says Imported at the top of its form when it is opened to edit.
What a file must hold
A row with a value that is not right (a date that is not a date, a number that is not a number, a status or a category StoreDeck does not know) is skipped, never the file. A file with no columns StoreDeck recognises, without a column a record cannot do without, or with values under a blank header is refused whole, with the reason. Columns the template does not have are left out.
- Orders
- Need a date, a product, a quantity and a price. A product StoreDeck already holds is linked by its name; an order the store already holds is skipped, so importing a file twice adds nothing. The payment method, the refund, the return postage, the refund date, the units returned and those back in stock are read back too.
- Listings
- Need a product name, a cost and a price. Each arrives on sale under an order label that names one product, and every supplier link is a column of its own.
- Opening balances
- Start the stock count of SKUs not keeping one yet, each posted as its Opening balance. The owner's.
- Expenses, adjustments and payouts
- Each read back from the columns of its own sheet in an export.
Common questions
Can I import a file I exported?
Yes. The workbook's Orders, Listings, Expenses, Adjustments and Payouts sheets, saved as CSV, read straight back in, and so do orders and listings exported as CSV: a sheet's summary rows above its headers, its total lines and the columns it works out are passed over.
Does an import count toward my plan?
Each row is saved as if you had added it, so the month's order allowance and the plan's listing limit apply. The check tells you before anything is saved.
